Louisiana Senate approves bill to increase online sports betting tax rate
HB 639 proposes to increase the tax rate from 15 to 21.5 per cent.
US.- The Louisiana Senate has approved a bill that would increase the state’s online sports betting tax rate from 15 to 21.5 per cent. State Representative Neil Riser’s HB 639 was approved in a 35-3 vote. It had already been approved by the House and now awaits the governor’s signature.
The original bill would have increased the tax rate on online sports wagering to 32.5 per cent.
Recently, Maryland Governor Wes Moore signed off on House Bill 352 into law, which increases the state’s online sports betting tax rate from 15 to 20 per cent. Moore initially proposed an increase to 30 per cent in the budget plan, but the Maryland House Ways and Means Committee proposed a middle ground of 20 per cent. That was approved by legislators, while a proposed increase in casino table game taxes from 20 to 25 per cent was rejected. The tax rate on in-person sports betting will remain at 15 per cent.
