Landing is confident to continue its Manila project

The company said that the project is unaffected by the president’s decision to stop the casino.

Philippines.- Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte decided to remove all members of the Nayong Pilipino Foundation, which is a body controlled by the government and leased the land to Landing International to build a US$1.5 billion casino. However, the company said that the decision does not affect the project that would start in 2022.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the lease contract that Landing signed with the foundation has put the government in a bad position as the rental payment was unconscionable, therefore Duterte’s administration is at a disadvantage. “Sorry to burst your bubble, people, but the president said that is grossly disadvantageous to the government,” said Roque minutes after the company broke ground for the project to be located in South Manila.

Despite Duterte’s claims, Landing International said that unless the contract with the Nayong Pilipino Foundation was cancelled or nullified on legal grounds by the courts, “Landing International has reason to believe that it is a valid leaseholder and can legally proceed with its project.”

The project includes hotels, a convention centre, water parks and a gambling floor with 155 tables and 239 slot machines and electronic table games.
