Kentucky still uncertain on harness track proposal

State authorities continue to assess whether to approve one of three proposals to develop a harness track and casino.

US.- The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) met up this Tuesday to discuss the potential licence for a harness track and casino in near Oak Grove to be issued to one of three proponents. However, the group merely decided to attempt notifying residents of the community while they collect more information from applicants.

According to KHRC chairman Frank Kling, the authorities will try to inform the community and residents of surrounding counties about a public meeting set to be held over the next two weeks to discuss all three proposals. In order to have all companies providing the same information on their projects, Mr Kling explained they have asked proponents to submit additional information about their plans.

The KHRC intends to approve one of the three applications before November 1st, the deadline set by Kentucky law. Since the next commission meeting is scheduled to be conducted on October 27th, a lot of work needs to be done over the next 17 days.

The requests for the harness track and casino were filed by a partnership of Churchill Downs and Keeneland; Kentucky Downs; and Players Bluegrass Downs, a Kentucky Quarter Horse track that is owned by casino giant Ceasars Entertainment.
