Bill proposes rise to minimum age for sports betting in Kentucky

House Bill 904 also proposes banning prop bets involving athletes playing for the state colleges and universities.

US.- Kentucky lawmakers have introduced a bill that proposes several changes to the state’s gambling framework. House Bill 904 would raise the minimum age for sports betting and eliminate certain wagers related to college athletes.

Currently, the minimum age for betting in Kentucky is 18. If the bill passes, the state would join most of the others in the US in requiring bettors to be at least 21.

The bill would also ban prop bets involving athletes playing for the state colleges and universities, and it would legalise fantasy sports wagering, which would be regulated under the Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation. Fantasy contests would also be subject to the over 21s age limit.

The legislation was introduced by Representatives Michael Meredith and Matt Koch and awaits assignment to a House committee.
