Kambi welcomes full repeal of federal sports betting ban in US
Supreme Court judgment permits individual states to dictate their own sports wagering laws.
US.- Kambi welcomes today’s US Supreme Court’s judgment, which finds the federal ban on sports wagering to be unconstitutional and transfers the responsibility to state legislators. Since the enactment of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 1992, sports wagering has only been legal in the state of Nevada.
However, in recent years the state of New Jersey has argued PASPA to be unconstitutional, and contested that states should have the right to dictate their own sports betting laws. In siding with New Jersey, today’s Supreme Court decision has created a significant business opportunity for Kambi, vindicating our long-term regulated market strategy.
Kambi believes it is well positioned to enter the US as and when local laws permit, and is excited by the prospect of US sports fans being able to enjoy the Kambi Sportsbook. As previously communicated, Kambi has been proactive to ensure it is ready to launch in the US on day one of a legal market, and remains confident it will be able do so.
Kristian Nylen, Kambi Chief Executive Officer, said: “Today’s Supreme Court judgment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Kambi.
“We have been working towards this day since our inception, putting in place the foundations to ensure the business would be ready for a legal US sports betting market when it arrived.
“Kambi has already proven itself to be the leading end-to-end Sportsbook provider in regulated markets across six continents and I’m therefore confident we’ll have the right product for a US audience.”
