Japan strengthens gaming control
Japanese authorities are studying different proposals to prevent problem gambling once casinos begin operations.
Japan.- National authorities have approved the creation of Resourceful Center of Problem Gambling (RCPG), a private department focused on problem gambling prevention and further controls over gaming industry. According to AGBrief, the RCPG is the most successful organisation addressing the issue yet.
Representatives of RCPG responded to Asian newspaper’s questions about upcoming Japanese casino industry. They said that “to date there has been no other example in Japan of an organisation attempting to comprehensively grapple with problem gambling—an issue which has largely been ignored by policymakers in the past.”
Representative Director Naoyuki Nishimura continued: “Now there is the movement toward the establishment of an IR law, and it is important to step up our efforts to deal with problem gambling comprehensively. So we set up this new organization in Tokyo.”
During the latest Diet Session, Japanese Congress was set to finally address a comprehensive casino proposal to approve gaming development. Representatives of Liberal Democratic Party and the Komeito party had agreed on discussing casino legislation by the end of the month, when the session was supposed to start.
Legislators need to discuss the IR Implementation Bill, casino legislation in order for it to take effect, allowing operators to begin the bidding process. After all requirements are fulfilled, international companies will be able to start the construction phase of the highly expected integrated casino resorts.
