January revenue 15% up in New Jersey
The state experienced its highest sports betting handle to date in January and increased revenues by 15%.
US.- According to the latest financial report released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), which details January operations in the state, total gaming revenue increased 25% year-on-year to US$229.6 million in January.
The DGE revealed that of the total gaming revenue collected in January, US$177.3 million was generated from casino win, which represents a 9% increase, and internet gaming win also experienced great results as it grew 53% to US$33.6 million.
Sports betting also enjoyed its most active month to date in New Jersey, as the state recorded US$385 million wagered just in the first month of the year. Approximately US$80.3 million were wagered on-site while US$305 million was bet online. Sports betting revenue was US$18.8 million, 10% less than what the state achieved in December 2018.
American football accounted US$7.6 million in revenue and totalled US$82 million in handle. Despite the fact that January events led to the Super Bowl LIII, the biggest sport event of the country, handle for basketball was significantly higher than the one from American football and totalled US$135.6 million, though revenue was just US$1.7 million.
