New Mexico casino opens sportsbook

The New Mexico facility Isleta Resort & Casino has opened a full-time sports betting facility this week.

US.- Isleta Resort & Casino officially opened on Monday a full-time sports betting facility. The casino started offering sports betting to its customers in August but at a temporary location on the casino floor.

The full-time sportsbook features a bar, 50 televisions with a lounge area and four betting kiosks and quick access to the food court, Bizjournals revealed. The facility will use Nevada-based USBookmaking to run its sports betting.

“We’re excited to unveil the best sports betting facility in the state of New Mexico, complete with a full-service bar, exciting viewing area and the all-new Isleta Food Court next door,” said Isleta Resort & Casino CEO Harold Baugus in a statement.

The casino accepts bets on collegiate football and basketball

Back in August, Isleta informed its decision to accept bets on collegiate football and basketball games. The only condition is that they involve in-state teams, from the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University.

“There is a huge Lobo and Aggie following in this market,” Isleta Resort & Casino CEO Harold Baugus said. “We feel there is enough training and measures in place. Taking bets on UNM and NMSU games won’t be a problem.”

“We already communicate with our donors and student-athletes all the time about the NCAA rules and regulations regarding sports betting and will continue to do so,” UNM athletic director Eddie Nuñez said. “But now, the fact is we’re going to have to do more.”
