After record numbers in the last fiscal year, Lottery sales have slowed down since July.

US.- Last fiscal year, the Iowa Lottery reached record sales, but things are have slowed down in the new fiscal year. Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Strawn believes last year’s numbers were brought on by the special circumstances of the pandemic.

During a board meeting, he said: “Through August 31st, gross lottery sales for FY ’22 are running 2.9 per cent ahead of last year, and ahead of budget projections.”

However, Strawn said the lottery’s budget is ahead of projections, with Lotto games seeing a boost in sales as jackpots climb. Scratch ticket sales are up 1.4 per cent year-over-year, while the multijurisdiction games of Powerball, Mega Millions, and Lucky for Life are up a combined 30.4 per cent to the end of August.

Strawn added: “While we are no longer seeing those year-over-year double-digit increases — I am pleased to report to the board this morning that Lottery sales remain strong.”
