Iowa Gaming Association supports online gambling expansion
The Iowa Gaming Association (IGA) is preparing for a possible push to get legislative approval to expand online gambling in the state.
US.- The Iowa Gaming Association’s president, Wes Ehrecke, says 2022 may be the year for online gaming in the state. The IGA is pushing for legislative approval in next year’s season.
The state’s sports betting industry launched in 2019 and recorded a record $200m revenue from wagers in September 2021. Many IGA members believe that online gambling can only improve those results.
Those in favour of igaming approval also says online gambling would boost tax revenue and create new jobs and technological innovation for Iowa. However, some argue that besides the economic impact igaming could have on land-based businesses, it may also trigger more gambling-related social problems.
Currently, online gambling is permitted under law in six states: Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
