Indian Minister insists on gambling ban

The politician talked to the parliament after the Law Commission recommended a complete gambling ban.

India.- Ravi Shankar Prasad, India’s Union Minister of Law and Justice, talked to the Upper House of Parliament and reiterated that the Law Commission recommended a total ban on gambling.

The Minister discussed the commission’s stance on the subject and said that if a complete ban can’t be ensured then the legalisation of gambling and betting with specific regulations and frameworks should be considered by the parliament and state legislatures.

The session comes after an independent member of India’s Upper House of Parliament, Amar Singh, raised a question of whether the commission had recommended legalising gambling and what the government would do regarding those recommendations.

While the Minister did not directly address Singh’s question on what actions would be taken, he reiterated that they should approve a complete ban on gambling.
