Illinois evaluates iGaming bill
Illinois legislators are holding several meetings to discuss a possible online gaming regulation.
US.- The Illinois House Executive Committee is gathering information throughout this week’s sessions to debate on the potential legalisation of online gaming industry. The state’s Senate has already approved the iGaming House Bill 479, which is now being reviewed by the special committee.
“Illinois residents participate in illegal online gambling on unregulated Internet websites operated by offshore operators who are not subject to regulation or taxation in the United States,” stated Illinois legislators, according to Card Player. The bill aims at creating the Illinois Gaming Board to control a legal iGaming activity.
The current bill sets conditions to legalise both daily fantasy sports and online gaming platforms. Illinois could get more than US$1.7 billion if the state legalises online gaming. The information was revealed earlier this month in a report conducted by Chris Grove, Online Poker Report and PlayUSA. Furthermore, the online gambling market in the state could generate approximately US$280 million in revenue in its first year of being legalised, most of it coming from online casino games and online poker.
Under the Illinois legislature, DFS and iGaming operators would contribute to the state’s funds following a standard measure based on gross revenue. Players under 21 years old and professional sports players would be banned from any kind of gaming platforms and the state would offer assistance at problem gambling.
