iGaming tender stalled in Buenos Aires

The bidding process for iGaming licences in the Buenos Aires province is still underway, but the elections seem to post a major hurdle for it.

Argentina.- The province of Buenos Aires seemed to near iGaming’s launch after its approval by late 2018. However, the imminent change of government has apparently put the bidding process in jeopardy.

The governing party (Cambiemos) clearly lost the primary election and will most likely lose again in the general election. Therefore, as Peronism may win again, its rejection in the Legislature last year sparked serious doubt.

So far, the process remains the same as it was in July, with 14 companies still racing for the seven permits. However, LPO sources assure that “the process is still going, but there’s no rush to complete it.”

Local regulator IPLyC will award seven licences soon and has preselected 14 companies to compete for them.

Preselection

Buenos Aires’ IPLyC received and signed respective documents on the 14 proposals. During the bidding process, the regulator will dismiss seven projects. The remaining companies will receive a sports betting licence for the Province of Buenos Aires.
