Hurricane Sally closes casinos in Mississippi

Twelve coastal casinos have had to close their doors in Mississippi as the hurricane approaches.

US.- The Mississippi Gaming Commission ordered all of its casinos along the coast to close their doors on Monday as Hurricane Sally approaches. The order covers twelve properties.

All casinos were ordered to be vacated by 4pm on Monday, with many venues providing buses to transport guests to the airport.

The commission actioned the closures for fear of potential flooding in the area. Hurricane Sally is predicted to be a Category 2 storm and is expected to make the majority of its landfall over Mississippi some time from this morning (Wednesday).

Mary Cracchiolo Spain, public relations director for MGM Resorts Mississippi and President of Coastal Mississippi, said: “This is not our first rodeo, we’ve been through many storms so we feel very comfortable with the process that we have in place. And so, we’ll just be watching and like I said, praying all goes well, but preparing for anything that could happen.”

The news comes just as Mississippi casinos were beginning to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
