Goa offshore casino’s move to benefit the industry
According to Delta Corp Ltd, the casino industry would benefit from the government’s decision to move offshore casinos to land.
India.- The biggest casino operator in Goa, Delta Corp Ltd, believes that the initiative to move local casinos to land will benefit the industry as it will provide more stability to their business. Offshore gaming venues are soon to shift from the Mandovi river to land after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announced on Monday that they will have to do so within three years.
Goa currently has six offshore and 10 land-based casinos in an industry where Delta Corp is the biggest fish. Jaydev Mody, company’s chairman, told BloombergQuint in an email that concerns over “unfunded pollution issues” and disturbance to fishing “which is also invalid as barges will continue plying in the Mandovi.” Delta runs three offshore gaming rooms in the area: Deltin Royale, Deltin Jaqk and Deltin Caravela.
“Delta Corp Ltd. is drawing up plans for how it will comply with the government’s directions as soon as the rules are framed and the Act is amended. We see this as a positive for the industry and for the company,” he added on the decision that the government made “to address all these concerns, whether valid or not.”
