German state proposed casino legislation
Lawmakers have proposed a new bill that would extend casino licences across the German state.
Germany.- German state Schleswig-Holstein is looking into new ways to further allow casino gambling in the territory. Legislators have proposed new legislation that would extend casino licences that have already expired.
The legislative piece would pave the way for operators that hold an expired licence to obtain the authorisation to continue its iGaming and casino operations across the German state until legislators can issue new licences.
The licences would be valid until June 30, 2021, as part of the association with the German State Treaty on Gaming. Opposed to it, Schleswig-Holstein is seeking to develop a new regulatory framework after that date.
The bill establishes that German states are in talks to develop a solution that would set new regulations for relevant gambling laws. Legislators have already claimed that other states want to join in on the action.
If the bill passes, operators would be subject to a 20% tax on gross revenues, the same percentage set under the expired licence agreements. Moreover, if the Treaty is integrated into State law, the licenses will come into force on January 1, 2020, running to 2021 as parts of an experimental phase that would allow Minister-Presidents of Germany’s federal states to study and analyse the effectiveness and success of it.
