Georgia Lottery to get new director
The lottery from the Peach State is set to introduce a new director on January 1, as the current one is retiring.
US.- Governor Nathan Deal announced this week that he nominated Gretchen Corbin, commissioner of the state’s technical college system, to replace current Georgia Lottery President Debbie Alford, who announced that she’s retiring from her post.
The lottery board is set to vote on the recommendation made by the Governor, but it is expected that it will be approved swiftly as it is only considered a formality. If everything goes as planned, Corbin will take over the job on January 1, Deal’s office confirmed. Corbin was previously commissioner of the state’s Department of Community Affairs.
“The critical programs funded by the Georgia Lottery, including the HOPE Scholarship and Georgia Pre-K, help millions of children across the state earn a quality education from start to finish,” said Governor Deal, and added that Alford’s leadership helped them secure the largest funding transfers on record in the 24-year history of the lottery, which provides students with a “strong foundation for continued success both in the classroom and the future workforce.”
Deal also said the he’s confident that the incoming leadership at the Georgia Lotteri, as well as the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), will continue to do exceptional work in connecting students throughout the state with the resources and support needed to reach their fullest potential.
