Genting Casino closes location in Edinburgh
The casino located in Leith cashed in its chips for the final time on Sunday evening.
Scotland.- Genting Casino at Ocean Drive closed its doors on Sunday evening, leaving Edinburgh with only two branches of the casino chain still in operation. The company said that having three casinos in close proximity has been challenging in the current trading environment.
Casino members were told that they will be able to transfer their existing memberships and rewards to Edinburgh’s two other Genting branches at Fountainpark and York Place, Edinburgh News reported.
“We completed a 30-day consultation period with our staff and made the difficult decision to close our casino in Leith on Sunday, February 17. While there will be a small number of redundancies, we have been able to redeploy a large number of staff from Leith to sites in Edinburgh Fountain Park and York Place,” said a Genting spokeswoman.
While it is still unknown what will happen to the building where the Genting casino is located, the brand is still one of the largest in the UK, with more than 40 outlets in the territory.
