Spanish gambling revenue rises in Q2

Gross gaming revenue was up 18.6 per cent year-on-year.

Spain.- The Spanish gambling regulator the DGOJ has reported that gross gaming revenue in the country hit €410.3m in the second quarter of the year. That’s a rise of 18.6 per cent year-on-year and of 2.8 per cent from Q1.

Deposits came to €1.35bn, up 23.7 per cent year-on-year but down by 0.4 per cent sequentially. Withdrawals totalled €962.9m, up 28.9 per cent year-on-year. The number of new accounts rose by 11.7 per cent to 504,853, but new accounts were down 11.6 per cent from Q1.

Casino gaming represented 52.7 per cent of GGR at €216.4m. That’s a rise of 25.98 per cent year-on-year and 6.53 per cent sequentially. Slots GGR was up 6.98 per cent quarter-on-quarter, while live roulette GGR was up by 5.6 per cent and conventional roulette by 0.47 per cent.

Sports betting represented 41.8 per cent of revenue at €171.4m. That’s a rise of 18.21 per cent year-on-year and a rise of 2.73 per cent sequentially. Poker generated €19.1m, a decrease of 25.11 per cent quarter-on-quarter and of 25.23 per cent year-on-year. Compared to the previous quarter, cash poker was down by 5.95 per cent and tournament poker by 32 per cent.

Bingo generated €3.4m a a decrease of 6.41 per cent year-on-year and of 6.91 per cent sequentially. Contests generated €2,000.

There were 77 licensed operators in Q2: 52 offering casino, 42 offering betting and nine offering poker, plus four bingo operators and two providers of contests. Marketing expenses in Q2 rose 37.08 per cent year-on-year to €164.50m but were down slightly in quarter-on-quarter terms.

The monthly average of active accounts rose by 21 per cent in year-on-year terms but was down 2.41 per cent sequentially at 1.7m.
