Gamban to launch ‘undeletable’ iPhone app
The new iOS app marks the provider’s 10th anniversary.
UK.- The problem gambling support provider Gamban has announced that it will release an updated iPhone app that will be more difficult to remove. Coinciding with the provider’s 10th anniversary, the new iOS mobile app introduces a feature previously only present on its Android offering. The idea is to limit problem gamblers’ ability to delete the app from their phones if they feel the urge to gamble.
The launch date hasn’t been specified, but Gamban said it is currently carrying out beta testing in a variety of languages, including English, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Norwegian, Finnish, Dutch and Japanese. Gamban added Finnish and Norwegian this year.
As well as a gambling block, the app will be able to track the amount of saved time and money while away from gambling to provide an incentive and will signpost to local treatment services.
Gamban said the app was made possible through extensive research and investment. At an anniversary event in Shoreditch, London, co-founder Jack Symons said: “What sets us apart from other options is our commitment and ability to continually invest in our approach to blocking gambling. We are not interested in a minimum viable solution – gambling blocking software is far too important to do on the cheap.
“In line with this aspiration, we are pleased to announce that our new version for iPhones will be impossible to be removed by users for their chosen duration of protection. This will enable more peace of mind for Gamban users and their families as they embark on their recovery journey.”
Gamban launched in 2015 as the first gambling blocking software of its kind for Apple Mac devices. At the anniversary event, the company said that in the last 10 years more 460,000 people have used its app. Its blocklist now includes around 350,000 domains and apps, with around 300 new ones added every day.
