Federal government could back East Windsor casino
The Federal government is likely to give its blessing to MMCT’s project in East Windsor, Connecticut.
US.- The upcoming East Windsor casino project could get backed up by the federal government, as NBC Connecticut reported. Ryan Zinke, secretary of the Department of the interior was present at an event held at the Mohegan Sun Casino, owned by one of the coalition’s tribes.
As reported by the news outlet, Tribal Chairman Kevin Brown both Connecticut’s Governor Daniel Malloy and the federal government are in favor of the casino in East Windsor that is set to be built by the Mohegan tribes and the Mashantucket Pequot. “It was really monumental to see the state of Connecticut’s Governor Dannel Malloy stand with the secretary of the interior particularly in the shadow of this agreement that we’ve struck with the state to build a third casino,” he said, and added that Governor Malloy and Secretary Zinke had a very fulsome conversation that identified and recognised the respect that the federal government has for their relationship with the state of Connecticut and they support what they’re doing with the state of Connecticut.
The MMCT venture is currently waiting for Malloy’s signature to proceed with the construction of the project, as Connecticut has recently passed the required legislation that allows the first commercial casino in the state, which would also compete with the upcoming neighboring MGM Springfield.
“Without the advisory opinion from the Bureau of Indian Affairs to begin with, I don’t think the legislature would have sent that package to me and so you know I think those two things are very much linked,” governor Malloy said.
