FanDuel to push for DFS legalisation in Florida

The operator is urging its clients to support the gaming activity in the Southeastern state.

US.- FanDuel has been sending emails to its users in order to help them push for the legalisation of daily fantasy sports (DFS) in Florida. According to Florida Politics, the email contains a link where users can directly send a message to the state legislators.

“A new bill has been introduced that would update Florida’s laws to recognize what we all know to be true—that fantasy sports are games of skill and should be kept legal for all eligible Floridians to enjoy,” says part of the email, which also encourages locals to go to a scheduled Senate committee hearing that will discuss a major gambling bill that could help DFS. “The fact is that current laws have not kept pace with technology. Unless legislators are willing to deny millions of Floridians the right to play America’s newest national pastime, they must act quickly to update the law by passing legislation that protects your right to play,” the company said.

Earlier this month, Jason Brodeur, State Representative from Florida, filed the measure last week to construe that daily fantasy sports are not a gambling activity under current Florida laws. HB 149 is seeking to spare fantasy games from regulation by the entity that supervises gambling in the state. The bill establishes that players can draft records of actual athletes while avoiding fantasy sports from gambling laws since the activity is a game of skill and is not based purely on luck.

Spokesman for DraftKings and FanDuel, Marc La Vorgna, said: “The companies look forward to working with Rep. Brodeur during the upcoming legislative session and, on behalf of the 3 million Floridians who love fantasy sports and want to keep their favorite pastime legal, we thank him for his support of fantasy sports.”
