FanDuel and DraftKings to come back to Nevada
FanDuel and DraftKings are coming back to Nevada after the state’s NGCP published draft legislation that would make paid-entry fantasy sports exempt from Nevada’s gambling laws.
US.- Now that Nevada’s Gaming Policy Committee (NGCP) published draft legislation that would make paid-entry fantasy sports exempt from state gambling laws, FanDuel and DraftKings have taken steps towards getting back into the state.
Back in October, Daily fantasy sports (DFS) operators were thrown together with sports betting operators when Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman A.G. Burnett ruled that DFS constitutes gambling under the state law. As per this view, any operator wishing to offer their services in the state had to obtain a sports pool license granted by the Nevada Gaming Commission.
FanDuel and DraftKings did not apply for a sports pool license and pulled out of the state- Now the DFS operators have put the draft legislation together, which only mentions the word “daily” in its heading and aims to lay out terms for all fantasy sports operators to be exempt from state sports betting law. So far, USFantasy Sports is the only fantasy sports operator to have gained licensing in the state, allowing players to wager through a sportsbook.
The NGCP scheduled a meeting on the subject of DFS next Tuesday. The meeting will involve public comment, an overview of states with fantasy sports legislation, current DFS legal framework in Nevada and an analysis of the finances DFS revisions to Nevada law could produce.
