English victory sees boost in betting on 2025 Women’s European Championship
Women’s football betting may have finally arrived.
UK.- Women’s football hasn’t traditionally been a major betting markets, but it seems that may be changing. England’s high-profile victory against Spain on penalties in the final of the 2025 Women’s European Championship may be remembered as a landmark moment.
Writing for iGaming Future, Ben Cullen, head of Trading at British market newcomer Midnite said the Women’s Euro 2025 tournament turned out to be one of the biggest betting events of the summer, outpacing the men’s tournament at Wimbledon or World Matchplay Darts. Only Royal Ascot, the FIFA Club World Cup final and the UEFA Nations League final generated more bets in the past two months.
It’s a clear sign of growing engagement and enthusiasm from punters,” he wrote. “Players were particularly drawn to the England matches, which were by far our most popular matches. The final in particular saw a significant increase in active users and total revenue, the culmination of a trend we saw throughout the tournament, with increased gaming activity round by round.”
Cullen said that Midnite invested heavily in price increases, which helped to increase engagement but also came with risk. In the final, the operator it offered a Super Boost on England to lift the trophy, which proved popular and came in. The Match Result market was also a winner, but the tournament as a whole actually made a loss.
He said: “From my perspective, the most encouraging thing is how these results reflect a shift in betting behaviour. Women’s football is no longer treated as a niche event within gaming, it is becoming a central part of the calendar, and players are approaching it with confidence and enthusiasm. It’s great for the sport, and it’s exciting for us as bookmakers.”
Cullen added: “Although we didn’t come out on top overall, the tournament was a huge success in terms of engagement, growth and momentum. For us at Midnite, it’s another sign that women’s sport has truly arrived.”
