Eldorado to move Louisiana casino to land

The casino operator announced it is considering to move the Isle of Capri, one of its two floating venues, to land by 2020.

US.- Floating casino operators were cleared to move their venues to land after legislation was passed in Louisiana this year. That’s why Eldorado Resorts, which operates two floating casinos in the state, has announced it’s considering a potential move to land for one of its venues by 2020.

Eldorado Resorts chairman and CEO Gary Carano said in a conference call that they may move the Isle of Capri, located in Lake Charles, near Texas, to land after legislation allowed them to do so. He explained that work would be scheduled to begin in the second half of 2019, with a land-based opening set to take place in 2020.

However, Mr Carano assessed that a potential move for the Belle of Baton Rouge out of the Mississippi River is highly unlikely. The venue is anchored right next to an Eldorado Resorts owned 7432.2 square-meter atrium where it could be installed, should the company change its mind.

The legislation to allow the riverboat casinos to operate onshore was signed into law by Governor John Bel Edwards in May. While riverboat casinos brought the state approximately US$400 million in 2017, it is believed that the new legislation will help modernise and make the state more appealing for casino operators as there is competition from other facilities in neighbouring states.
