East Windsor casino moves forward

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the general development plan special permit for the MMCT venue in East Windsor.

US.- The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes’ effort to develop a casino in East Windsor has scored another win as the Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) unanimously approved its general development plan special permit on Tuesday. The venue is close to receiving the final nod from the town but still has to bring its detailed site plans to the commission on June 27th.

“I have big concerns about the traffic,” commission member Jim Thurz said about one of the main topics to be discussed next Wednesday. He also added that the tribes’ other casinos in southeastern Connecticut were built on open space and this one is slated for the middle of East Windsor, which may cause traffic problems.

Despite concerns around different issues, commission members agreed and voted unanimously to approve the general development plan. PZC Chairman Joseph Ouellette noted that state statutes allow for the MMCT Venture to make changes if serious traffic issues occur as a result of the casino and called it “a much needed economic generator for this town.”
