East Greenbush’s casino project blocked by residents
The Town Board members oppose the construction of a gambling venue.
US.- East Greenbush’s Town Board members voted in favour of rescinding a resolution issued in June 2014 that supported the creation of a gambling venue in the area.
The project proposed by Saratoga Casino and Gaming and partner Churchill Downs Inc was to build a US$300-million hotel and casino resort in the town. Supervisor Keith Langley, whose administration issued the June 2014 resolution, supported the project, as he believed the revenue provided by the gambling venue would make an annual contribution of US$5.7 million to the town.
East Greenbush’s residents have other plans, as they opposed the project and protested the decision of the New York State Gaming Facility Location board to support the construction of three casinos in Upstate New York. They cite dubious financial records, lack of transparency and low bond ratings as the reasons why they are against the US$300-million project.
