Dream Las Vegas Hotel Casino approved near McCarran Airport
The Clark County Commission has approved the $500m Dream Las Vegas hotel and casino.
US.- The Clark County Commission has voted 6-1 to approve Dream Las Vegas resort. Construction will begin next year.
This new venue will sit on five acres separated from McCarran Airport by a chain-link fence. It will be the closest resort to the airport’s runways. Major airlines, including Southwest, Delta, American, and United, have expressed concern about drones, lasers, and other lighting that could cause “flash blindness” in the cockpit.
The Transportation Security Administration has issued an assessment stating the project is near an area of the airport “used for high-level individuals, special operations and military aircraft parking,” reported The Review Journal. They also state the resort “would increase risk to both the aircraft and the passengers due to active shooters and the ability to throw things over the fence intended to cause harm.”
Dream Hotel Group had to undergo various design changes after pushback from federal agencies, including scrapping guest room balconies.
With 527 rooms, the luxury property would be much smaller than other resorts on Las Vegas Boulevard. The idea is to offer a boutique-style experience in an ultra-competitive market dominated by massive resorts. It will cost around $500m.
Developers hope to start building Dream Las Vegas early third quarter 2022 and open in 2024. The facilities will include 450 guest rooms and suites, seven dining and nightlife venues, including a rooftop pool deck, bar and lounge, three feature restaurants, spa, fitness centre, two additional bar and lounge concepts on the gaming floor, as well as 12,000 square feet of private meeting and event space.
