DraftKings and FanDuel resume ops in Delaware
The biggest DFS operators in the United States are set to resume operations in Delaware today.
US.- Daily fantasy sports fans will be able to celebrate the end of the week with the coming back of operators FanDuel and DraftKings to Delaware. The companies announced on Wednesday that they would come back after the Governor John Carney signed into law the bill that authorises DFS operations in the state.
The amendment signed by Carney clarifies that DFS requires a skill to come up with different fantasy lineups in a short amount of time, therefore they’re not games of chance. Moreover, it establishes that the outcome of fantasy sports doesn’t depend on a single sport event or athlete. The bill signed by Carney forces operators that want to offer their services in the state to pay an annual fee of US$50k, as well as 15 percent of gross revenue that come from local players.
FanDuel CEO Nigel Eccles said that the legislation mirrors others across the country, Delaware Online reported. “We have thousands of fantasy players in Delaware who love our product and now know that their right to play daily fantasy sports is protected thanks to important legislation sponsored by state Representative Charles Potter,” said the official in a statement.
The operators come back approximately a week before the NFL season kicks off on September 7. On July 27, Delaware became the fourteenth state to legalise DFS operations in the United States.
