DFS takes effect in Mississippi

The gaming bill was finally approved by Mississippi’s Governor Phil Bryant.

US.- Mississippi has officially incorporated daily fantasy sports (DFS) tournaments to its legal framework, after some temporary provision that began in 2016. The gaming modality has been finally approved by the state’s Governor Phil Bryant yesterday.

Earlier this month, local legislators had passed the approved bill to the governor in order to approve it. With the governor’s signature, daily fantasy sports is now completely legal in Mississippi, starting this week.

Daily fantasy sports has been legislated in the state since 2016, but the former regulation expired this year. Therefore, Mississippi’s lawmakers had to approve another bill, which contemplates a complete framework for the gaming sector.

Under the recently approved legislation, current operators such as FanDuel, DraftKings, FantasyDraft and Yahoo DFS will be able to apply for a renewed license. Authorised companies will have to pay US$5,000 over three years, as well as an 8 percent tax based on the local revenues.
