DFS in Louisiana may get delayed

The legislative session ends on Thursday and lawmakers may not reach an agreement on DFS regulations in Louisiana in time.

US.- Even as sports betting continues to take over the country and daily fantasy sports (DFS) were cleared by voters, the segment may not land in Louisiana any time soon. As the current session ends on Thursday and lawmakers haven’t reached a deal on regulations yet, DFS in Louisiana may get postponed.

Lawmakers still need to agree on rules and taxation rates. However, a House and Senate dispute over whether to legalise wagering on live action sports events has delayed them.

Republican Rep. Kirk Talbot, of River Ridge submitted two bills that would enact the rules and taxing plans required. However, they need senators didn’t agree with representatives approval of the legislation and sent them back with language to legalise wagering on college, professional and other live action sports events. Senator Danny Martiny pushed the proposal and House lawmakers have already rejected that idea.

“We voted. It’s time to uphold the will of the voters and advance fantasy sports contests once and for all,” said Ryan Berni, spokesman for Fairness for Fantasy Sports Louisiana. DraftKings and FanDuel finance the organisation and push for the segment’s legalisation.
