Denmark: Court blocks access to 16 gambling sites
Regulator granted permission to shut down online gambling sites illegally targeting players in the country.
Denmark.- A District Court ruled in favour of the Danish Gaming Authority (Spillemyndigheden) after it filed a request to block 17 unlicensed gambling sites.
One of these 17 sites pulled out of the market before the court’s decision was announced, and following the ruling the remaining 16 sites have been blocked.
The regulator said that each operator was told to cease Danish operations before the requests were filed in court, though only one of the 17 sites targeted complied.
Two of the sites hosted real-money sports betting, seven offered online casino and a further seven offered esports skin betting.
“We work to protect players against illegal gambling, and we also need to ensure that the operators who are licensed to offer gambling in Denmark can run their businesses under orderly conditions,” Spillemyndigheden Director Morten Niels Jakobsen, said.
“That is why it is very important for us to clamp down on gambling offered without a licence,” he added.
