Delaware experiences sports betting decline in January
Less player activity drove the 91.1% month-on-month decline in Delaware’s sports betting market.
US.- Delaware’s facilities allowed to offer sports betting services reported their financial performance for January, which show that they experienced a 91.1% month-on-month decline in revenue, mainly because there was less player activity and therefore less wagered.
Total revenue for last month totalled US$1.4 million, with Delaware Park generating the majority of that revenue and accounting for US$975k of the total, which is also approximately 33% down when compared to December 2018. Dover Downs generated US$259k in revenue, or a 37% decrease from the previous month, while Harrington Raceway completes the list with US$203k.
The main contributor to these negative results was the decline in player activity in the state, as the total number of bets placed across the three licensed sports betting facilities in Delaware fell 35.4% to 227,328, while the amount wagered decreased 25.7% to US$11.9 million.
Players won US$10.3 million during last month’s operations, which represents a 12% hold for January, also down from December’s hold of 13.3%.
