Delaware opens sports betting market
The state will debut the recently-legalised sports betting market today and will become the first state in the country to do so.
US.- Delaware is set to be part of the history of the sports betting industry in the United States as today it will become the first state to offer full-scale sports betting in the country. Bets on sports will begin today at 1:30 p.m. ET at the state’s three casinos.
The US Supreme Court ruled last month that the federal ban imposed on sports betting was unconstitutional, as each state deserved the chance to decide if it wanted to legalise and regulate the gambling modality. After the decision, Delaware Gov. John Carney said that the state had all necessary legal and regulatory authority to move forward with sports betting operations and that they hope that it will bring more visitors to Delaware.
The three casinos that will legally offer full-scale sports betting will be Delaware Park, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino and Harrington Raceway & Casino. While the state hasn’t announced if it will be able to offer college betting, it is believed that college football will be available. Current state lottery regulation establishes that no bets can be taken on Delaware’s two Division I colleges, Delaware State and the University of Delaware.
