Delaware evaluates its casinos
Delaware government and a casino advisory group held a meeting this week to evaluate the industry.
US.- The Video Lottery Advisory Council held a meeting last Tuesday with the General Assembly to discuss the Delaware casino industry. The complete recommendations report will be published by September or November, according to authorities. This week’s meeting was the first of the year.
Delaware legislators could debate next year new regulations to enhance gaming operations, as casino revenues have been falling for ten years. The state casino Dover Downs reported drop of US$706k in 2014, and US$184k in the first three months of 2017, as published by Delaware State News.
“We can’t give up, folks, and we can’t sit out another year of not doing anything,” Ed Sutor, president and CEO of Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, commented after the meeting. Casino industry is expecting further regulations to reduce gaming taxes and add more profitable policies in the market.
Companies have also proposed to open their venues on Christmas and Easter, which would generate further US$2.25 million, according to reports. “We’re the only casinos in the country that shut down completely on Easter and Christmas,” added Sutor.
