Calls for Polish Government to reduce gambling taxes

Bookmakers Companies Association has requested the government lower taxes fro, 12% to 10% from at least March to September.

Poland.- The Polish Government has been asked by bookmakers to temporarily reduce gambling and lottery taxes to help save thousands of jobs within the industry as the global Coronavirus pandemic batters the nation.

Due to lockdown measures, the Bookmakers Companies Association says there are currently around 1,500 betting shops that are closed across the country, employing approximately 5,000 people in total.

The Association has requested a government intervention into the reduction of tax on gambling and lottery from 12 per cent to 10 per cent – only during the ongoing pandemic.

A minimum period from March to September has been proposed, although that timeframe could be extended depending on the extent to which the virus continues to affect the Polish economy.

According to Gambling Insider, there is ‘an estimated decline of gambling activity to be around 60%’, with fears of an even greater drop if isolation measures continue.

Meanwhile, the Association has also requested payment of the aforementioned taxes to be delayed until September 2020.
