Companies push for mini casinos in Pennsylvania

Penn-Northwest Development Corp. is pushing a proposal to get a mini casino developed in Springfield Township.

US.- Five out of ten licences for mini casinos have already been awarded in Pennsylvania and companies are eager to develop the venues in the townships they sponsor. Penn-Northwest Development Corp. is one of them and is pushing Mount Airy to use its own licence to develop a venue in Springfield Township.

Penn-Northwest Development Corp. CEO Randy Seitz highlighted the Mount Airy Casino in Mount Pocono and the community around it. He visited the venue with Mercer County commissioners, business leaders and Supervisor Rick Dillaman.

The casino operator is allowed to build within a 15-mile radius of Hickory Township, Lawrence County, an area which includes Springfield Township. According to Seitz, a development would mean a US$100 million investment over five years, over 600 jobs and gaming revenue for the county and township.

The development corporation is expected to send out a proposal to the company, in order to get it to consider the township. It already has several potential sites in store and highlighted that the area has about six million visitors a year thanks to its hotels, restaurants, shops and other attractions.
