Circa Sports joins Arizona’s sports betting market with new ADG licence
The approval allows the company to enter Arizona’s sports betting market through a tribal partnership.
U.S.- The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has assigned an event wagering licence to Circa Sports, clearing the way for the operator to launch in the state through an agreement with the San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe. The licence was issued following Arizona’s third application window, held between June 26 and July 10, and increases the number of approved sportsbooks beyond the 14 already operating in the market.
Outside Arizona, Circa Sports operates retail sportsbooks in Illinois, Kentucky and Nevada, while its online platform is available in Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri and Nevada.
Arizona law allows for up to 20 event wagering licences, split evenly between federally recognised tribes and professional sports organisations, eligible venues and their operating partners. The state’s regulated market has generated approximately $35.3bn in wagers since legal sports betting was launched in 2021, producing around $190.6m in event wagering privilege fees.
The ADG will open a new licensing window for retail sportsbooks from August 13 to 27. Up to 10 retail sportsbook licences will be available for operators partnering with racetracks or off-track betting facilities licensed by the Division of Racing.
The state’s sports betting market remains dominated by FanDuel and DraftKings, which together generated more than half of the state’s betting handle in May. The monthly handle totalled $ 676.7m, representing a 4 per cent year-on-year decline. Online betting accounted for $673.9m of that figure. DraftKings reported $199.7m in bets followed by FanDuel with $197.7m. Fanatics ranked third with $85.5m.
