Charges against Resorts World Manila
The Philippine police revealed that criminal charges will be filed against the management of Resorts World Manila.
Philippines.- Metro Manila Police Director Oscar Albayalde said earlier this week that the police is ready to file criminal charges against the management team of the Resorts World Manila after a shooting that led to the death of 37 people.
“The Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies will finalise and submit today or tomorrow their findings, which means they are ready to file charges of negligence resulting in multiple homicides,” said the official during to a forum in Manila, as the Manila Times reported. Whilst only three relatives have expressed that they intend to file criminal charges, Albayalde explained that the police has the power to file it as a nominal complaint. “Security lapse could be blamed for everything probably. [A] security person admitted that he left the CCTV [camera room]immediately. He could have seen people on the second floor at the VIP room and they could have been saved [if he did not leave the room]. All the 37 died because of suffocation,” he said.
Public Attorney’s Office head Persida Acosta affirmed that they have prepared the computation of damages, and that her lawyers are waiting for the full reports conducted by the police and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and that they will be used when filing the civil case.
Travellers International Hotel Group Inc, Resorts World Manila’s operator, revealed to the Philippine Stock Exchange new plans to revamp the floors that were damaged during the shooting. The second floor, where the massacre occurred, will be destined to non-gaming activities, whilst the first and third floors will only hold casino operations, according to the company’s plans.
