Casinos in Goa unrelated to crime rate

The Chief Minister of Goa assured that the rising crime rate in the state is unrelated to the casino industry.

India.- Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar revealed yesterday that there is no correlation between the casino industry and the rising crime rate in the state. The revenue obtained from casinos had doubled over in the last two fiscal years, as the official said.

In his written statement, the leader reported that crime rate decreased in the last three years, from 4467 cases reported in 2014 and 2693 in 2016. There are currently five offshore casinos that operate in the Mandovi river in Goa, and a sixth one is getting ready to launch its operations. Moreover, the revenue that goes directly to the state exchequer has increased substantially in the last three fiscal years, as india.com revealed. On Sunday, Vijai Sardessai, town and country planning (TCP) minister, said that the government could announce a new casino policy during the forthcoming monsoon session.

Goa has been treating this issue for quite some time now, as they’re trying to relocate the existing casinos to another river. The local government announced last week that the deadline to find a new home for the five offshore casinos that are currently operating in the Mandovi river has been pushed to September 20, as authorities haven’t reached a decision yet.
