New Canada casino goes live
Canada’s new Cascades Casino held a soft opening this week and opened its doors to the public in Chatham.
Canada.- The Cascades Casino held a soft opening for the public this week. Canada’s newest casino opened its doors in Chatham and received hundreds of visitors.
“It’s very exciting. I think it’s really exceeded expectations,” said Rob Mitchell, Gateway’s communications and public affairs director.
Lots of people lined up outside the €24.5 million venue in the Ontario town.
The approval
The Chatham-Kent Council officially approved the location for Gateway Casinos’ Cascades Casino in April 2018. The casino opened in mid-2019 like it announced and will bring slot machine gaming to the city.
The council meeting unanimously approved the application for site plan control for Gateway’s proposed facility. The Cascades Casino features over 300 slots and 10 table games.
Mayor Randy Hope had said that the approval is a major step for the project: “It’s about us getting the site plan approval, getting the Government of Ontario to give the final sanction and then they can get in the ground. If we’re lucky, within ten months we’ll be welcoming a new casino with 200 jobs, plus the spin-off jobs, plus the new revenues coming into the municipality,” he hoped back in 2018.
