Caesars’ Gold Coast casino, already dismissed
Queensland Premier sentenced that she doesn’t want Gold Coast to become a casino city and shut down Caesars’ project aspirations.
Australia.- After reports indicated that Caesars Entertainment Corp. was interested in developing a casino in the city, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk commented that she doesn’t want Gold Coast to become a casino city. She explained that the city can only license one casino operation, a privilege already granted to a Chinese-backed group of investors.
The US$2.2 billion project, as Casino News Daily reported, will be developed as an integrated resort in Gold Coast’s Southport Spit. There have been several big casino industry companies talking with the ASF Consortium (the developer) in order to participate in the project, officials said. Among them is Caesars, who has recently emerged from bankruptcy and is looking to arrive in Australia and open a Gold Coast casino as its first venue in the country.
President of International Development at Caesars Entertainment Corporation Steven Tight met with Paul Donovan, Gold Coast tourism chairman, during a trip to the city back in July. However, the company hasn’t announced if it will seek an individual license or if it will join ASF Consortium.
ASF’s integrated resort hasn’t started construction work and is yet to be named. They are waiting for the results of a Queensland government consultation process, which will be announced later this year and then, the company will present the detailed plan for its project. The development will include five towers that will host top-tier hotels, dining facilities and entertainment, including a casino floor with multiple gambling options.
