Brazil: Lawmaker pushes for full gambling legalisation
Senator Angelo Coronel has once again insisted on the legalisation of gambling, calling for legislation to cover all gambling, not just casinos.
Brazil.- Senator Angelo Coronel has again insisted that Brazil should legalise gambling.
On his social media profiles, the legislator said that people were engaging in gambling regardless of its illegality in the country and that regulation was needed.
“At this time of crisis, it is fundamental to create a new source of income and jobs for Brazil. For that reason, we will work hard to legalise gambling,” Coronel wrote.
The senator, who has promoted bill PL 2648/2019 to legalise gambling emphasised that he advocates the legalisation of all types of betting.
“It is absurd that they have existed for a long time yet they do not generate taxes or profitability that can be used for social programmes.
“We lose about R$50bn [approximately US $9.3bn] a year, in addition to the 700 thousand direct jobs that could emerge in this period of economic crisis.”
