Brazil aims at sports betting
Whilst the country has not regularised the gaming industry yet, authorities may formalise the sector.
Brazil.- The global gaming industry is expecting Brazil to enter into the market. Whilst the Senate is assessing the gaming bills to regularise the local industry, the interim president, Michel Temer is considering establishing an official sports betting company.
A month before the beginning of Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, next August 5th to 21st, Brazil may launch a state-run sports betting company to enhance national taxes garnering. The South American country has been facing a major economic crisis, leading to political changes and the impeachment proceedings against suspended President Dilma Rousseff.
New state-owned sports betting company would operate online services under the administration of a private company along with the Caixa Econômica Federal Bank’s –Caixa– instantaneous lottery. The target is to raise R$8 billion –US$ 2.4 billion– for the public funds. Furthermore, Mansueto Almeida, the Secretary for Economic Affairs, commented that foreign companies will be able to bid for the project.
