Former Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman placed the first bets.
US.- The new Boomer’s Sportsbook at Ellis Island Casino Hotel & Brewery has opened in Las Vegas. Former Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman, current mayor Shelley Berkley, Ellis Island Casino & Hotel CEO Gary Ellis and Boomer’s Sportsbook president and CEO Joe Asher participated in the opening ceremony.
Goodman made the ceremonial first bets, $250 on the Padres to win the World Series and $250 on the Raiders to win the Super Bowl. He said that if the bets win, all winnings will be donated to charity. Mayor Berkley also bet on the Raiders to win the Super Bowl.
Boomer’s Sportsbook posted on X (Twitter): “Yesterday was more than just a grand opening, it was the start of something new in Las Vegas. We opened with community leaders, partners, and supporters. Now it’s time to gear up for football season. Heads up…our playbook is built to win!”

Boomer’s is the only independent sportsbook in Nevada and also operates at Casino Valle Verde in Henderson and the site of the old Commercial Casino in downtown Elko. Customers can sign up for a mobile account at the sportsbook and place wagers anywhere within the state of Nevada via the app.
Last year, Ellis Island Casino announced a $35m expansion and renovation.
