Betano secures igaming licence in Ontario

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has issued the licence for one year.

Canada.- Kaizen Gaming-owned Betano has secured an igaming licence from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). The licence is valid until August 16, 2023, and covers the Betano.ca website.

Other operators have secured licence approval following the launch of regulated igaming in April, including EveryMatrix, which will distribute its proprietary content and in-house developed technology for sportsbooks and casinos. Greentube has also received a supplier licence from the regulator in the Canadian province.

Some weeks ago, a coalition of five provincial gaming corporations in Canada called on the federal government to work with provinces and regulators to clamp down on illegal gambling websites in the country. The Provincial Lottery Corporations coalition comprises the British Columbia Lottery Corporation; Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis; Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation; Loto-Quebec; and Atlantic Lottery Corporation.

Ontario’s Casino Ajax and Pickering Casino workers reach four-year deal

In early August, unionised workers at Casino Ajax and Pickering Casino Resort in Ontario reached a four-year agreement bringing a two-week-long strike to an end. Unifor Local 1090 said that 92.8 per cent of workers approved a tentative agreement with the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation.

Approximately 800 workers from Casino Ajax and the Pickering Casino Resort went on strike on July 22. Both venues remained open but live table games at the Pickering Casino Resort were closed during the action.
