Atlantic City increases revenues in July
The nine casinos in New Jersey’s gambling hub Atlantic City registered US$323.3 million in gaming revenue during July operations.
US.- Figures released on Wednesday by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) indicate that total gaming revenue in Atlantic City was US$323.3 million in July. The number represents a 7.8% increase when compared to the same period last year.
The nine casinos experienced good results in July, despite not being able to register double-digit increases like previous months. Year-to-date revenue for Atlantic City facilities is US$1.85 billion, an 18.4% increase over the first seven months in 2018.
When taking into account that two facilities opened in Atlantic City in June 2018, last month is the first one that Atlantic City can equally compare year-over-year results. This year, however, the city features sports betting operations, which in comparison should increase overall revenues.
James Plousis, chairman of the Casino Control Commission, said: “July provided the first opportunity to compare year-over-year results in Atlantic City’s nine casino market. Those results confirm the market has grown. It’s clear the increase in competition has led to market adjustments while providing new and exciting options for gaming and leisure visitors to explore.”
Five casinos reported increases in total gaming revenue
Five casinos reported a rise in total gaming revenue in July, including Golden Nugget, Hard Rock, Ocean Resorts and Borgata. The other four properties are involved in the US$17.3 billion merger between Caesars and Eldorado Resorts.
Borgata was once again the top scorer with US$88 million in total gaming revenue. July was the best month in the casino’s history. Borgata registered another record, as it totalled US$31.8 million in table games revenue. “Playing lucky in table games, complemented by healthy July volumes, led to Borgata enjoying an all-time record in total gaming revenue,” said Marcus Glover, COO and president.
Hard Rock, which opened on June 27, 2018, followed Borgata with US$40.8 million in total gaming revenue. This represents a 24.6% increase over its first full month of operations last year.
Golden nugget reported US$35 million in total gaming revenue, of which US$14.9 million came from online gaming. The total figure for Atlantic City casinos operating online gaming was US$39.3 million, or a 52% increase over 2018.
