ATG names Anna Romboli as new CEO
Romboli will seek to reinvigorate the Swedish gambling operator as it prepares for expansion into Finland’s future online gambling market.
Sweden.- The Swedish gambling operator AB Trav och Galopp (ATG) has appointed Anna Romboli as its next chief executive officer as it gears up for an international expansion. Romboli joins ATG from the state-owned lottery gaming operator Svenska Spel, where she spent six years leading the TUR division and overseeing flagship lottery products such as Triss and Eurojackpot.
Romboli’s career has also included senior roles at NetEnt and at the consultancy Veryday, where she focused on product development, customer engagement and digital transformation. Her arrival follows a succession process triggered by the departure of long-serving CEO Hasse Lord Skarplöth. Interim leadership has been provided by Jörgen Forsberg, who will continue until Romboli takes the helm in December.

ATG plays a central role in funding Sweden’s trotting and galloping industries, making its commercial health vital to the sustainability of the sport, but it has faced challenges in driving growth from its core horseracing and totaliser products. Lord Skarplöth has been a fierce critic of Sweden’s gambling tax hike to 22 per cent in 2024. He has pushed for a higher tax on online casino gambling and lower taxes on horseracing betting, reflecting the approach taken with the recent tax rise in the UK.
In its Q4 results for 2025, ATG reported that net gaming revenue had dropped 2.2 per cent year-on-year to SEK5.25bn (€479m), while overall revenue fell 3.6 per cent to SEK5.97bn. Pre-tax profit dropped 16 per cent to SEK1.57bn, while net profit declined 16.4 per cent to SEK1.24bn.
Romboli will need to reinvigorate ATG’s financial performance and broaden the appeal of horse-race betting to a wider audience while also overseeing its expansion to the future regulated online gambling market in Finland via its joint venture with Suomen Hippos, the Finnish equestrian association.
Hippos ATG is one of almost 50 applicants for Finnish online gambling licences ahead of the market launch scheduled for July 2027. It will operate with ATG’s branding and platform.
Commenting on her appointment, Romboli said: “I am very happy and proud to be entrusted with leading ATG. It is a company with a strong history, many committed employees and a special significance for the Swedish horse industry. I look forward to continuing to develop the offering to our 1.4 million customers together with the employees and building on what makes ATG unique.”
ATG Chairman Peter Norman said: “Anna has extensive experience in the gaming industry and has shown over many years that she can develop both businesses and people. She is a leader who combines business acumen with great commitment and customer focus.”
