No tennis in 2020 says Tennis Australia Chief
“My personal view is I think for tennis to come back this year is going to be tough” – TA Chief, Craig Tiley.
Australia.- Tennis may not return at all in 2020 according to Tennis Australia (TA) Chief, Craig Tiley.
Tournaments have been cancelled on a global scale due to the Coronavirus pandemic which has seen most sporting events wiped out this year.
The men’s ATP Tour and the women’s WTA have suspended all tournaments until June 7 after countries imposed border lockdown measures to contain the spread of deadly virus.
Tiley told the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday that he thinks it will be difficult for the sport to return this year.
“My personal view is I think for tennis to come back this year is going to be tough.
“It relies on global travel, and I think that’s probably the last thing that’s going to come back. I think sports that have a domestic focus are in a strong position and sports that have a global focus are more challenged.”
Wimbledon is likely to be latest sporting casualty on the calendar, with the All England Tennis Club expected to announce its cancellation for the first time since 1945 on Wednesday.
