Ten casinos now open in Cambodia

Casinos had to obtain permission from the Ministry of Health to resume operations after lockdown.

Cambodia.- Ten casinos have reopened in Cambodia since being allowed to apply for permission in July.

Ha Tien Vegas casino reopened on September 18, and followed by Donaco’s Star Vegas Resort a few days later, both with limited capacity.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance’s deputy director, Ros Phearun, told The Phnom Penh Post that 10 casinos have reopened after being forced to shut on April 1 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Eight casinos in Sihanoukville, one in Phnom Penh and one in Poipet are now open, but other venues in Bavet town are expected to reopen soon.

Prime Minister Hun Sen first announced the reopening of casinos on July 3, with capacity limits and new configurations to sustain social distancing. Group games remain prohibited and casinos must gain permission from the Ministry of Health.
